Saturday (March 1) Living Water


Scripture

Wednesday's Living Water

Tuesday's Living Water

Don't panic! It is the same verse in two translations again. Both are so good! Run with perseverance the race marked out before us. Fix our eyes on Jesus! Do not grow weary!

Scripture-

Do you see what this means—all these pioneers who blazed the way, all these veterans cheering us on? It means we'd better get on with it. Strip down, start running—and never quit! No extra spiritual fat, no parasitic sins. Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we're in. Study how he did it. Because he never lost sight of where he was headed—that exhilarating finish in and with God—he could put up with anything along the way: Cross, shame, whatever. And now he's there, in the place of honor, right alongside God. When you find yourselves flagging in your faith, go over that story again, item by item, that long litany of hostility he plowed through. That will shoot adrenaline into your souls!

Monday's Living Water

Scripture-

Abraham didn't focus on his own impotence and say, "It's hopeless. This hundred-year-old body could never father a child." Nor did he survey Sarah's decades of infertility and give up. He didn't tiptoe around God's promise asking cautiously skeptical questions. He plunged into the promise and came up strong, ready for God, sure that God would make good on what he had said. That's why it is said, "Abraham was declared fit before God by trusting God to set him right." But it's not just Abraham; it's also us! The same thing gets said about us when we embrace and believe the One who brought Jesus to life when the conditions were equally hopeless. Thursday's Living Water


Meditate
I like the language 'you chew on Scripture day and night.' The Hebrew word here for meditate is 'hagah.' It simply means to reflect on; ponder; to engage in contemplation.

We don't (at least we shouldn't) read the Bible to get a 'buzz', but to get every ounce of nutrition out of it. When we meditate on God's Word, we "chew" it by reading it over and over. We spend time pondering the words and what it reveals about Jesus and His heart for us. Then it sinks down into our hearts, as we go about other things; but later that day, we'll bring it back up again in our mind and dwell on (ponder, reflect on) it some more, and on and on. (a quick review from an earlier entry)

Scripture-

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

Wednesday's Living Water

Lectio Divina (Sacred Reading)
Lectio – reading and listening to the text

Place yourself in a comfortable position and allow yourself to become silent. Some Christians focus for a few moments on one thing to block out the noise of life. A favorite prayer or Bible verse can be gently recited in order to become peacefully aware of God's presence. Use whatever method is best for you and allow yourself to enjoy silence for a few moments.

Then, turn to the text and read it slowly, gently. Savor each portion of the reading, constantly listening for the "still, small voice" of a word or phrase that somehow says, "I am for you today." Do not expect lightning or ecstasies. In lectio divina God is teaching us to listen to Him, to seek Him in silence. He does not reach out and grab us; rather, He softly, gently invites us ever more deeply into His presence.

Saturday's Living Water

As I type, I wonder how I can encourage each of you to stay diligent with these daily readings. To press on through the distractions that can pull us away. Today’s verse talks once again about faith. That theirs is growing more and more. Yet when we keep reading we see there are persecutions and trials going on and they are enduring. If your days have trials, tuck this verse in your heart and reflect back on it. Slowly read it again and again. They were enduring and their love was growing. What an example for us. Be encouraged. Stay the course!
